Dr Rob Thomson
Rob began his career in nursing before completing postgraduate medicine at The University of Sydney. He subsequently commenced training in intensive care medicine before ultimately specialising in anaesthesia, gaining Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. He has gained broad experience across major centres in Sydney and Brisbane, as well as working across rural New South Wales and Queensland. His family ultimately chose to settle on the Sunshine Coast in late 2018, where he now holds both public and private appointments.
He has completed subspecialty fellowship training in regional anaesthesia, acute pain management, and perioperative anaphylaxis, and now contributes as part of the Anaesthetic Allergy Service at Sunshine Coast Health. Rob is passionate about the use of regional anaesthesia, "nerve blocks", for situations where it is beneficial to avoid general Anaesthesia for surgery, and as an alternative form of pain relief.
Rob has a strong interest in clinical governance and is actively involved in developing innovative models of procedural sedation, as well as participating in the integration of digital health into perioperative care.
Beyond medicine, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife and young child, often at the beach or exploring hiking trails. He also has a passion for good food, green grass, and restoring antique Australian lawn mowers.
Rob values open communication, takes time to build rapport with his patients, and is committed to providing holistic, patient centred care.
