All patients are reviewed and triaged by their anaesthetist prior to the procedure. Your anaesthetist will review your medical history, questionnaire, and any relevant information before your surgery.
If you are undergoing a more complex procedure, such as a knee replacement, hip replacement, or shoulder replacement, your anaesthetist will usually contact you beforehand to discuss your medical history, anaesthetic plan, and answer any questions you may have.
If you are a low-risk patient or having a short procedure, such as a skin procedure, colonoscopy, or similar minor surgery, you may not be contacted in advance and may instead meet your anaesthetist on the day of your procedure prior to surgery.
Please be reassured that your anaesthetist reviews all of your paperwork and medical information prior to your procedure. If there are any concerns or changes required, they will contact you.
If you have any concerns about medications, fasting instructions, or your medical history, please feel free to contact our team and we will be happy to assist.

Please also advise if you are currently under the care of any medical specialists for acute or ongoing conditions. Your anaesthetist will develop a personalised pain management plan based on your procedure, medical history, and individual needs. Our goal is to ensure you are as comfortable as possible during your recovery while also supporting a safe and smooth return to normal activities.
Pain control may include a combination of approaches such as:
Local anaesthetic injections or nerve blocks performed during surgery
Short-acting medications given during and after your procedure
Oral pain relief medications prescribed following your surgery
Multimodal pain management, which uses different types of medications together to improve comfort while minimising side effects
For patients undergoing more complex procedures or experiencing ongoing pain concerns, our team also works closely with Dr Rao Fu, our specialist in pain medicine, who has expertise in managing both acute and complex pain conditions.
If you have concerns about pain management, previous difficulties with pain control, or chronic pain conditions, please include this information in your pre-anaesthetic paperwork or contact our team so we can ensure your anaesthetist is aware prior to your procedure.
